Can other players see my custom cape?
In Java, no: the cape is drawn by your own game's resource pack, so only you see it — other players keep seeing the cape Mojang gave you. In Bedrock it depends on how you wear it: the .mcpack is your own game's resource pack, so only you see it — but on a Windows PC, “Everyone (Windows)” puts it on your skin as a real cape through the game's own skin folder, and other players see that.
How does it work in Java without mods?
Java only draws a cape for players who own an official one. The pack paints your design over the official cape you wear, on your back and on your elytra, and gives the plain elytra your design for everyone else. It works in Java 1.21 to 26.x.
I don't have a cape in Java. Can I still use it?
Your design still goes on your elytra. To see it on your back you need an official cape — the free ones from Minecraft events count — or a cape mod, for which the tool gives you the cape picture.
How do I wear it in Bedrock?
Download the .mcpack and open it; Minecraft adds it by itself. Turn it on in Settings → Global Resources → My Packs, then in the Dressing Room take your cape off. Your design shows on your back and your elytra, and the game swings it with its own cape animation — a real cape you have on always shows instead. Your own skin stays as it is. On a Windows PC you can instead pick “Everyone (Windows)”: a folder you drop into the game's skin_packs folder that puts the cape on your skin for everyone to see.
Can I put lots of capes in one Bedrock pack?
Yes — open the Pack tab, press “Add this cape to the pack” for each cape you make, then Download cape pack. You get one .mcpack; choose which cape you wear with the gear button on the pack in Global Resources.
Can I import a cape I already have?
Yes — press Import my cape (in Designs) and pick its PNG. Any cape file works: the normal 64 × 32, HD ones (128 × 64, 256 × 128…) and OptiFine's. It goes on exactly as it is, pixel for pixel, at its own size, and you can carry on painting it.
Can I make an HD cape?
Yes — choose a bigger Canvas size in Designs: 128 × 64, 256 × 128 or 512 × 256, like a texture pack's 32x or 64x. Java shows every pixel (an animation with lots of frames on a big canvas comes out less sharp — the game's shader can only carry so much). Bedrock capes are always 64 × 32, so Bedrock gets a smaller copy.
Can I put my own picture on a cape?
Yes — open Pictures and make the whole cape a picture, or add one on top. You pick the part you want, and Java shows it at full resolution — far sharper than a normal 64 × 32 cape. Bedrock capes are 64 × 32, so Bedrock gets a smaller copy.
Can I make an animated cape?
Yes, for Java: paint frames in the Animate tab, or use a GIF. It plays in Java 1.21.1–1.21.4 and 26.2 and later — the versions where the game gives the cape a clock; 1.21.5 to 26.1 show its first frame. Bedrock can't animate capes, so the Bedrock pack gets the first frame.
